How does microplastics get in the air?

by Anna Kaczmarczyk

According to a recent study, 84 percent of airborne plastic microparticles are picked up from interstates and highways. This is due to tires naturally wearing out. Another 11 percent are lifted from the ocean surface.

Plastic microparticles also arise due to the breakdown of bags and bottles, during washing, when the fibers of things peel off.
