Thanks to this, they almost instantly adopt the safest position for landing. Similar principles are used by figure skaters, regulating the inertia of the body during the rotation on the ice. Such miracles of acrobatics would be impossible if cats did not have an amazingly flexible lumbar region.
Of course, if you’re the lucky owner of a house cat, you shouldn’t immediately put its unique abilities to the test. This is sometimes still quite traumatic for the animal, for example, if the fall starts from a low height, about 0.5 meters.
